KS2 RESULTS FOR 2024
Broom Valley children's assessments.
Do you have a child in Year 1: If so, they will be taking the statutory Phonics Screening Check In June.
What is the Phonics Screening Check?
Children in Year 1 throughout the country will all be taking part in a phonics screening check during the same week in June.
Children in year 2 will also take the check if they did not achieve the required result when in Year 1 or if they have not taken the test before.
Reporting to Parents and Carers
By the end of the summer term we will report each child’s results to their parents/ carers. This will confirm if the child has met the standard threshold. Children who do not achieve the expected level in year 1 will retake the test when they are in Year 2.

Do you have a child in Year 4? If so, they will be taking the statutory multiplication tables check (MTC) in June.
What is the MTC?
The MTC is an on-screen check consisting of 25 times tables questions. Your child will answer 3 practice questions before moving on to the official check, and will then have 6 seconds to answer each question. On average, the check should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete. The purpose of the check is to determine whether pupils can fluently recall their times tables up to 12, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It will also help your child’s school to identify pupils who may need additional support.
How can you help your child at home?
At the end of Year 6, children take KS1 SATs in :
- Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling, Reading and Math's.
- These tests will be written and marked externally, and the results will be used to measure Broom Valley’s performance compared to other schools. Your child’s marks will be used along with teacher assessments to give a picture of their attainment and progress.
When will the SATs take place?
- week commencing 12th May 2025
How will the SATs be marked?
The Government will give scaled scores to children. The score needed to reach National Standard is 100. SATs results will be reported to parents in the Year 6 end of year reports.
